Join us on Tuesday, October 24 at 7 p.m. when the Wild take on the Canucks. "Sock It To 'Em" Pack includes a ticket to the Wild game, a pair of Wild inspired socks from Hippy Feet. A portion of the ticket price will be donated to YouthLink of Minnesota. For every ticket purchased through this pack, a pair of socks will also be donated to the new Dorothy Day Opportunity Center in downtown Saint Paul.
Hippy Feet (www.hippyfeet.com) is a social organization dedicated to supporting the homeless population. Socks are among the least donated, yet most needed items at homeless shelters. For every pair of socks sold, another will be donated to a homeless shelter on your behalf.
In addition to our donation efforts, Hippy Feet provides employment to people affected by homelessness. By offering basic skill training in inventory management, packaging, shipping, and sales, we are able to give individuals an opportunity to transition out of homelessness, into the workforce, and back on their feet.
For over 40 years, YouthLink (www.youthlinkmn.org) has provided a safe and supportive refuge, along with the resources needed by young people experiencing homelessness. Last year, more than 2,200 young people from the Twin Cities accessed YouthLink—which is also home of the Youth Opportunity Center (YOC)—in downtown Minneapolis. At the YOC, YouthLink and over 30 community partner agencies come together to provide a holistic array of services to help young people become educated, employable, and stably housed.
Here are some stats regarding youth homelessness:
- 6,000 young people are homeless every night in the State of Minnesota
- YouthLink sees over 2,000 unique young people every year
- We serve over 37,000 meals per year
